About Bridge Port

Bridgeport is the material handling arm of the Bridge Group, who's success lies in the aligning of our facilities with the strategic infrastructural needs of the country. Our facilities cater to the need for the movement of high volume, high value commodities in a fast, efficient and safe environment at a specification level only found in the first world.

Prior to 1999 the Bridge Group outsourced its warehousing.

In 1999 the Bridge Group took a bold decision, based on the political will of the time, to construct a facility that would cater to the projected increase in cargo movement and trade in the SADEC region. Our projections, if correct, would prove that road transport alone, would not cope with the volumes and demand from the over border countries. It was therefore, central to our plans, that we build a facility or inland port that could handle high volumes of containerised traffic and despatch these by rail, with road as a secondary or back up option.

As time has progressed, Bridgeport has become the largest exporter of containerised traffic in Gauteng and perhaps even in the country as a whole. These volumes required the building of bespoke facilities that would do away with traditional handling methods.

To this end, we built our facilities without dock-levellers, opting rather for ground level warehousing - Our standard has since become the industry norm.

Our focus on the SADEC Region required that we customs bonded the facilities. Once bonded, we entered into a 2 year audit process with customs to achieve accreditation.

Bridgeport has since developed a prime site in Bayhead Durban. The area of choice in the 0-5km zone was nothing less than one of the major rail terminals in Durban. Our track record and focus on rail assisted us in obtaining this 12 hectare property in 2005. In the short period that has followed we have a powerful and thriving business that again, focuses on the packing and unpacking of containerised cargoes, catering to both imports and exports.
